Why should I buy a LASER replacement exhaust for my bike?
 Top

There are numerous good reasons to replace your original exhaust by a LASER;

Looks: LASER exhausts are available in various styles (carbon fibre, titanium and stainless steel) and are recognizable by the high quality finishing and distinctive designs (e.g. LASER HotCam and LASER X-treme)

Performance: LASER exhausts are built to perform. Each exhaust is extensively tested before being taken into production. Only the best pass the test!

Sound: LASER is well known for its deeptone sound. From custom till super sports exhaust LASER offers sounds from homologated deeptone up to racing level.

Weight: LASER exhaust are build with the lightest and strongest materials available so a LASER
exhaust weighs much less than an orignal exhaust.. Replacing your original exhaust by a LASER is the fastest way to lose weight on your motorcycle.

Quality: Only the highest quality materials are used for the production of a LASER exhaust. The product has to go through various levels of quality control before being sold. This means that with a LASER you are sure to have a top quality product!

What is the difference between racing, sports, homologated and street legal?
 Top

This terminology has to do with sound levels, official regulations and approvals.

LASER works with four classifications;

Approved (E-homologated): Tested and approved by official European testing institutes (e.g. Tüv, TNO, DEKRA etc). With official E-homologation documents for the application on the specific motorcycle model. So absolutely legal!

Street Legal: Sound level is within the margin of the European homologation standards (like all approved products), but without official E-homologation documents.

Sports / outlaw: Sound Level does not meet the European homologation standards. All sports / outlaw exhausts produce an acceptable sporty "deeptone" sound. The name outlaw is used for LASER Custom exhausts only.

Racing: Does not meet the European homologation standards. Racing exhausts reach a higher sound level than the regular sports / outlaw exhausts.

What exactly is ‘Dual Sound Technology’?
 Top

Basically ‘Dual Sound Technology’ is flexibility in sound without compromising the performance of your motorcycle.

Dual Sound Technology (or DST) enables the user to choose the sound level of the exhaust by changing ‘Inserts’. This means there is a choice between officially homologated (thus official legal according to the strictest European regulations) and sports (not road legal).

The unique feature of the LASER ‘Dual Sound Technology’ is the specially developed construction which enables to change sound levels without compromising the performance of the motorcycle. For more information on ‘Dual Sound Technology’ you can check www.dualsound.com.

What is a dB killer?
 Top

A dB killer is an insert which can be mounted into a sports exhaust meant to reduce the sound level. It will reduce the dB level with approximately 3 dB (varies per motorcycle model). Please note that using a dB killer will not make the exhaust homologated!

Not to be confused with the Dual Sound Technology!

My motorcycle originally has a catalyser fixed in the exhaust. Can I remove the catalyser or do I have to keep it?
 Top

It is possible to remove the catalyser whilst changing your exhaust system.
This often results in an even better performance of the motorcycle.

However in some countries it can be mandatory to keep the catalyser in order to pass the emission tests. For these countries LASER has developed an extensive catalyser program.

Your dealer can tell you all about local regulations on sound emissions and catalysers.

Does my motorcycle have to be tuned up after fitting a LASER / JAMA exhaust?
 Top

No, this is not necessary. LASER exhausts are designed to create a maximum performance increase with the standard carburetion / injection setting. However the use of carburetion / injection tuning may lead to even better performance.

Note: In some cases the setup of your motorcycle can be different from the LASER test model.

This difference can be caused by climate/altitude conditions or local emission standards.
An incorrect setup can affect the performance of your motorcycle or even cause damage to the engine. Therefore we advise you to have the setup of your motorcycle checked by your dealer.

Any necessary (structural) changes in the setup of the motorcycle can be done by installing a LASER Powerchip (BMW only), carburetor tuning kit or adjusted injection mapping.

Your dealer can tell you all about engine tuning.

Is it possible to refill my LASER exhaust?
 Top

For refilling LASER offers special refill kits. These kits consist of heavy duty refill material and necessary rivets. Please note that refilling an exhaust requires technical skills. For the best result please consult your dealer for advice.

How often do I need to refill my exhaust?
 Top

This depends on three factors:

1. the type of engine:
There is a difference between two and four cylinder engines. Two cylinder engines are known to put more stress on the exhaust interior so therefore the absorption material will wear out faster.

2. conditions under which the exhaust is used:
Under normal conditions the damping material will last for many thousands of kilometers without any problems. Under racing conditions where the exhaust is put under maximum stress the absorption material will wear out significantly faster.

3. construction of the exhaust:
Construction features can have a different effect on the absorption material of the exhaust. Sports exhausts with a relatively small damping volume have the tendency to wear out the absorption material faster. Whilst Dual Sound constructions (like the LASER Duo-Tech) hardly ever need to be refilled.

In general a LASER exhaust will last for many kilometers without the need for a refill. However it is important to check your muffler regularly on:
- sound level: the exhaust gets louder when the absorption material wears out.
- Weight : as the absorption material wears out the exhaust will become lighter.
- Discoloration: as the absorption material wears out the hot exhaust gasses will come in contact with the outer sleeve of the muffler causing a discoloration.
In this situation we advise you to immediately refill the exhaust.

How can I keep my titanium LASER exhaust in good shape?
 Top

LASER uses a very high quality titanium. In order to keep titanium in the right shape it has to be well maintained! The best way of doing this is to use WD40 multi-spray. Spray this on the exhaust before riding and also use this whilst cleaning. (use a clean dry cloth).
NEVER use an agressive cleansing agent and / or sponge to clean your titanium exhaust. It can cause severe damage to the material and the appearance of the product!

What is the purpose of using a powerchip on my BMW?
 Top

For some models of BMW motorcycles LASER offers the LASER Powerchip. This device has to be placed into the motronic unit and is build to improve the riding characteristics. It increases torque and makes the engine run smoother in the lower and middle rpm range.
